Healthy Habits for Menopause

Menopause brings changes to woman's body and for a lot of women, some very troublesome symptoms such as hot flashes, sleepless nights and mood swings.  The following is a list of some health habits which can reduce or eliminate some of these symptoms:

 

  • Be Aware of Symptom Triggers -- these are alcohol, caffeine, nicotine, sugar and stress.
  • Eat Well -- eat a variety of nutritious foods avoiding those high in fat, sugar and salt.  Include fruits, vegetables, lean protein and whole-grain foods and make sure to take a multivitamin.
  • Drink Wisely -- Water is the best and drinking ice cold water can reduce your body's core temperature during a hot flash.
  • Exercise -- this can help regulate body temperature thereby reducing hot flashes.
  • Relaxation -- Deep breathing, yoga and meditation are all recommended to help you relax.
